Peter J. Peters, transport company director, WWII veteran <br> Oct. 5, 1920 -- Feb. 5, 2009

Peter J. Peters, a retired transport company director, died Thursday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 88.

Mr. Peters, of Williamsville, was born in Buffalo and graduated from Riverside High School. He served in the Army during World War II and, afterward, worked for 38 years at Associated Transport as director of transportation.

Mr. Peters was president of the Utica Chapter of ALSAC/St. Jude, the fundraising organization of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

He received the Holy Name Man of the Year Award in 1987 from St. John Maron Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, the former Catherine Tartick; three daughters, Patricia Jones, Jean Grzybowski and Donna Safy-Anderson; and three sons, James, Robert and David.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday in St. John Maron Church, Amherst.
