The board of trustees of Goodwill Industries of Western New York named Michael W. Laipple its president for 2009. Laipple, an active trustee since 2004, is the president of LPCiminelli Solutions. St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute named Michael J. Freedman director of Communications. Freedman was employed by Artpark in Lewiston for the last five years, initially as public relations coordinator and subsequently as the director of communications. He graduated from Geneseo State College with a bachelor's degree in communications.

Hunt Real Estate Corporation promoted Nikki E. Alieva to director of marketing and public relations. Alieva joined the company in 2007. She graduated from the University at Buffalo and has an MBA from Canisius College.

Burden, Gulisano and Hickey attorney Jonathan S. Hickey co-authored an article titled, "The Graves Amendment: Pre-emption Legislation Creates a Cap on Liability," which was published in the January issue of For The Defense, the Defense Research Institute's national publication. In addition, he recently spoke on "Keys to Successful Pre-Trial Preparation" at a Continuing Legal Education seminar in Buffalo.

The International House of Pancakes (IHOP) Restaurants nationwide is offering a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes in an effort to raise awareness and funds for Children's Miracle Network on National Pancake Day, Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. IHOP customers will be invited to make a donation to the Children's Miracle Network program at the Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo for each short stack served.
