Senior Services Department slates heating aid programs
The Erie County Department of Senior Services is hosting home energy assistance programs in February to help the elderly pay their home heating bills.
County officials plan sessions today in East Aurora Senior Center, 101 Kings St.; Wednesday at the United Way of the Tonawandas, 34 Seymour St.; and next Tuesday in Orchard Park Town Hall, 4295 South Buffalo St.
The program will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Garden walk, art festival are joining forces
The annual garden walk in the Village of Hamburg is teaming up with the village's art festival this summer, in a bid to increase the drawing power of the combined events.
Both are being scheduled during the weekend of July 11-12, organizers said.
"It's a way of getting critical mass in our village," said Jeff Leyonmark, an organizer of the walk.
Last year, about 1,800 people attended the two-day event, with about 25 homes on the tour.
The starting point for the walk is Memorial Park at Lake and Union streets, which is also the venue for the art festival.
About 65 vendors displayed their wares at last year's art festival, which is usually held on a Sunday in August, Village Recreation Supervisor William Nye said.
