John Landis, a longtime program host on Classical WNED-FM, has left the station.
His departure came unexpectedly, with the station's fundraising drive scheduled to begin and Landis himself scheduled to give the introduction to Friday's Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra concert, an appearance that was canceled.
"I was terminated," Landis said. "I was told that I wasn't working there any more. They gave me a severance check, and 15 minutes to leave the office."
Gabe DiMaio, WNED's program director, said that the host's departure was voluntary.
"I can't comment further because it's a human resources thing," he said. "I can only say that he resigned. Out of concern for his privacy, I can't say anything more."
He added: "John will be missed. He's a great guy."
Landis, who is 69, said he was the oldest person at the station. He was a fixture for local classical music listeners for over 18 years.
