BARKER -- Anthony M. Petti Sr., longtime English teacher and coach in the Barker Central School District, died unexpectedly Wednesday in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Newfane. He was 49.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Petti earned a master's degree in education from the University at Buffalo and taught English for 20 years at Barker Central School, where he also served as senior class adviser.
At Barker Central, he coached softball, baseball, basketball and football. He also was an adviser for the Latrator Club, which produces the school yearbook, and the English Club. For years, he was a Writing Place teacher and also participated on the Western New York Writing Project.
A Barker resident, Mr. Petti coached T-Ball for the Town of Somerset and also served as town summer recreation coordinator for several years.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, the former Rene Moll; six sons, Joseph, Jacob, Noah, Anthony Jr., Luke and Eli; his mother, Margaret "Peg"; two brothers, T.J. and Jack; and four sisters, Sandy Tomasullo, Rosemary Petti-Schaner, Laurel and Cheryl.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. Monday in St. Brendan on the Lake Catholic Church, Ewings Road, Newfane.
