Two suspects charged in Peek n' Peak thefts
FRENCH CREEK -- Two Corry, Pa., residents were arrested Thursday on burglary and grand larceny charges in connection with their alleged break-in at a Peek n' Peak condominium earlier this month, Chautauqua County sheriff's officials reported.
Christopher S. Gibbons, 19, and Ryan A. Butcher, 17, are accused of breaking into the condo on Oct. 19 and stealing large-screen televisions, electronic equipment, bedding, clothing, snowboards and other valuable items. The total value of the items was about $11,000.
Sheriff's officials received a tip on the whereabouts of the stolen items, which led investigators to Corry, Pa. Corry police assisted in the investigation. Most of the items were found in a Corry home, police said.
A third person alleged to be involved in the crime is expected to be charged shortly, police said.
Gibbons and Butcher also face charges of receiving stolen property in Pennsylvania associated with the crime in New York, authorities reported. Both were taken to Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 property bond.
Driver faces DWI charge after hitting fire hydrant
CARROLL -- A Jamestown man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he hit a fire hydrant late Thursday morning, Chautauqua County sheriff's officials reported.
Robert H. Lindberg Jr., 39, of Shady Lane, was headed east on Route 62 at about 11:15 a.m. when his vehicle crossed the highway, left the road and struck the hydrant, shearing it off.
Lindberg had a minor injury but refused treatment. He also was cited for failure to keep right.
