Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcus Stroud will be reading stories and signing autographs to launch the Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive. The event will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Barnes & Noble store in the McKinley Mall. The drive will benefit the Marcus Stroud Foundation which is dedicated to supporting children who face significant physical, mental and financial challenges in a single parent home.


Buffalo Bills players will sign autographs to benefit the Kids Escaping Drugs Campaign in two sessions on Monday at the Verizon Wireless Store at the McKinley Mall. With a $30 donation for one session or a $50 donation for both, fans will receive a Limited Edition Bills poster and an autograph from each player. Players will autograph one item per person. Wristband sales begin at 2:30 p.m. The 6:30-7:30 session features defensive end Chris Kelsay, safety Donte Whitner and cornerback Leodis McKelvin while the 7:30-8:30 session features quarterback Trent Edwards, guard Brad Butler and defensive tackle John McCargo.


Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday for a final tribute to Memorial Auditorium. The event, "Farewell, Old Friend," will take place Nov. 15 and Nov. 16 at the Buffalo Convention Center. Approximately 700 sets of "blues" seats will be available at the in-person auction with about 100 available during an on-line auction. BASKETBALL: The Family 25, Inc. will hold tryouts for a 10-and-under AAU basketball traveling team at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Edward Saunders Community Center, 2777 Bailey Ave. in Buffalo. Contact Derek Summers at 597-3098.
HOCKEY: The Jersey Wildcats will play the Buffalo Stars in the Annual Taste of Buffalo Stars Weekend at Holiday Twin Rinks at 4:15 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. In Empire Junior B action, the Stars are 4-6-2 and in third place of the Western Division while the Wildcats are 7-7-0-1 and in third place in the Eastern Division.

ICE SKATING: Learn to skate classes for figure skaters and hockey players will be held at the Hockey Outlet Ice Complex in Wheatfield. Classes will begin the week of Oct. 10 and run from 4:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information or an application, call 636-7401 or visit

SOFTBALL: The Niagara Frontier Girls Softball Association will hold its initial meeting for the 2009 season at 7 p.m., Monday at Macgruder's at 4995 Broadway in Depew. Teams interested in the 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U and Open divisions should attend.

SOCCER: The Hamburg Monarchs will hold registration for its winter indoor house program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday and Nov. 8 at Dick's Sporting Goods in the McKinley Mall.
