The Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute's Debashis Ghosh and the Ross Eye Institute's Dr. Federico Gonzalez-Fernandez have been awarded a four-year, $1.6 million grant from National Institute of Health to support their research into a human eye protein found to be essential to the processes involved in vision.

Buffalo Hearing and Speech Center, a not-for-profit comprehensive diagnostic and treatment center for children and adults with speech-language and hearing problems, appointed Melissa Mummery director of human resources. Mummery, who has more than nine years of nonprofit and health care human resources experience, previously was with United Way of Buffalo and Erie County, Gastroenterology Associates, and Tara Cares. She is a graduate of Geneseo State College where she obtained bachelor's degrees in business management and philosophy.

Jaeckle Fleischmann and Mugel partner Gayle L. Eagan was a panelist at the WNY Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals "Where There's a Will There's a Way: Overcoming the 'But' in Planned Giving" panel discussion recently.

Cannon Design, an architectural, engineering and planning firm, accepted the American Institute of Architects' New York State 2008 Firm Award, awarded by the AIANYS Honors Awards Jury. The award recognizes notable achievements in design, community service, education and service to the profession and the AIA over a period of 10 years by an architectural firm within the state. The jury selects and honors only one firm in this statewide annual competition.
