Louise Cummings, 95, Children's Hospital cafeteria cashier Sept. 3, 1913 -- Oct. 24, 2008

Louise Cummings, a retired 30-year employee at Women and Children's Hospital, died Friday in Sisters Hospital after a brief illness. She was 95.

Born Louise O'Neil in Dublin, Ga., she moved to Buffalo with her family as a child.

From the early 1960s until she retired 30 years later, she was a cashier in the cafeteria of Women and Children's Hospital.

Mrs. Cummings received the Ernest J. Hutka Award for outstanding contributions to the hospital.

Her first husband, John Archie, died in 1961; her second husband, Detrice Cummings, died in the mid-1970s.

Surviving are three daughters, Thelma Lane, Rose Embry and Hattie Cummings; two sons, Richard Archie and Earl Archie; four sisters, Irene Brown, Anna Rippy, Gussie Bozeman and Esther Leigh; and a brother, Fred El-Min.

A wake will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by services at noon, in State Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, 234 Glenwood Ave.
