Monday homeroom QB (& striker, setter and goalie): Week Eight

By this time next week, we'll know who will be headed to Ralph Wilson Stadium for the Section VI championships and we'll have a clearer picture of how the Harvard Cup and Monsignor Martin football postseasons will shake out.

But that's certainly not all that's going on. Section VI and Monsignor Martin championships in all fall sports start getting handed out in what is an extremely busy week.

In case you missed anything from an important weekend, there's a lot to review.

First, from football:

** Check the matchups at the schedule and see how the teams got there by reviewing the scores and box scores from Friday night and Saturday.

** Here's the how and why of North Tonawanda's Friday night win over Clarence, and here's more about the Lumberjacks getting a shot at revenge on Lancaster.

** Friday's roundup is headlined by West Seneca East's win over Williamsville South, while there are blog posts on Iroquois' thriller against Starpoint and many more games.

** Kenmore West had Saturday's big win as it beat Jamestown -- here's how the Blue Devils won, and don't forget the defense.

** Saturday's comprehensive roundup includes big (but not that big) wins by Sweet Home, Grand Island and Cleveland Hill. On the blog, read how Grand Island plowed through the mud. Clymer holding on in Class D is one of the games included in another post.

** Outside Section VI, Riverside is rolling while East knocked off Grover Cleveland in the Harvard Cup, while St. Francis says its moving forward after winning its first game.

** We'll be back a little later today with some polls to get your votes on which teams will be headed to The Ralph.

The other fall sports fill up the week with quarterfinals, semifinals and championship games.

** Soccer: The large-school quarterfinals had drama for both the boys and girls (who have the top seeds in AA and A playing quarterfinals today). Here's the scoreboard and schedule. Discuss the action on the blog for the boys or the girls.

** Volleyball: We have the scoreboard and schedule for both sides and you can pick your winners for the girls and the boys. Tuesday sees 20 quarterfinals on the girls side while the boys start with pre-quarterfinals.

** Field hockey: All the games are at Amherst from here on in after an exciting quarterfinal round, starting with semifinals today through Wednesday and the championship tripleheader on Saturday. Check out the scoreboard and schedule and discuss who's going to win.

** Cross country: League champions were crowned over the weekend and Friday's sectional championships are the races runners have been working toward all season.
