Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare partner Dr. Thomas Elmer will rejoin Mercy Ships, a global charity that operates a fleet of hospital ships, staffed with volunteers from around the world, for a trip to Africa at the end of October. Dr. Elmer has previously volunteered on extended missions to Sierra Leone in 2003 and 2004, and then to Liberia in 2005 and 2006. With Mercy Ships, Dr. Elmer has performed more than 500 complex eye surgeries without charge. To support his mission, Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare is collecting old glasses from patients so Dr. Elmer can take them with him. The ophthalmology practice has offices located in Amherst and Niagara Falls.

Fidelis Care, the New York State Catholic Health Plan, promoted Scott Ryan to manager of data architecture at the company's Western New York Regional Office in Amherst.

Buffalo Discount Muffler and Brake President Thomas Sciortino Jr. and Patrick Boyle, service manager, achieved Master Technician status after successfully completing tests that measure skills in all major technical areas of automotive repair and service, and fulfilling practical experience requirements conducted by National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. Tops Markets and the Buffalo Bills announced a new marketing agreement. As part of the deal, Tops on Sunday is launching a promotion tied into the Nov. 17 game against the Cleveland Browns, which the supermarket chain will serve as game day sponsor. Other elements of the agreement include stadium advertising, print advertising, target marketing inclusions, and community partnership opportunities.

The law firm Friedman and Ranzenhofer has expanded into Niagara County with the opening of a Wheatfield office at 2768 Niagara Falls Blvd. The firm, founded in 1955, also has offices in Akron, Batavia, Buffalo, Clarence and West Seneca. GuildCare Adult Day Health Program, located at in the Olmsted Center for the Visually Impaired at 1170 Main Street, recently celebrated the 16th anniversary of the program with a luncheon attended by clients, staff and elected officials. The program is one of more than 3,500 adult day service programs nationally that provides health and social services to clients.
