Syracuse picked eighth in Big East

Syracuse was picked to finish eighth in the Big East this morning by the league's coaches.

Here is the preseason coaches' poll:

3. Pitt
4. Notre Dame
5. Villanova
6. Marquette
7. Georgetown
8. Syracuse
9. West Virginia
10. Providence
11. Cincinnati
12. Rutgers
13. Seton Hall
14. St. John’s
15. DePaul

Orange guard and former Niagara Falls All-American Jonny Flynn was selected to the league's pre-season team. Notre Dame forward Luke Harangody, the Big East player of the year last season, was picked as the league's preseason player of the year.

Greg Monroe of Georgetown and Samardo Samuels of Louisville were chosen co-preseason rookies of the year.

For the first time since the Big East became a 16-team conference, all the schools will participate in tournament at Madison Square Garden from March 10-14. Pitt, which won four games in as many days last March, is the defending champion.
