Niagara-Canisius men's soccer: Carl Haworth and Matthew Durand scored two goals in Niagara's 4-0 victory over Canisius in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference night game at the Demske Complex. Haworth's goal in the 37th minute put the Purple Eagles (8-3-2, 2-1-0 MAAC) in front. NU outshot the Griffs, 18-14. Canisius is 5-8-1, 1-2-0 in the MAAC.
UB men's soccer: Akron, ranked fifth in the nation, pinned a 2-0 loss on the visiting Bulls and snapped their nine-game unbeaten streak. It was the eighth straight win for the Zips (11-1-2, 4-0-0 Mid-American Conference). UB fell to 13-3-3, 2-1-1 in the MAC.
Canisius hockey: Dave Kostuch scored twice, including a short-handed goal, and Carl Hudson and Cory Conacher had single talles in a 5-4 loss to Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. The host Crusaders took a 4-1 lead into the third before the Griffs (1-2, 0-1-1 in Atlantic Hockey) twice cut the deficit to one.
Little Three cross country: Canisius won both the men's and women's titles at Veterans Memorial Park in Lewiston. Vasilis Kariolis of Canisius (26:21) won the men's race while Jill Shea (19:34) led the women for the Griffs. Niagara took second, paced by Mike Trendell (second) and Liz Smyth (eighth). St. Bonaventure was third led by Justin Isaman (10th) and Tiffany Barkley (13th).
Niagara women's hockey: The Purple Eagles fell to 0-6 with a 7-1 loss at Colgate. Jocey Kleiber scored for Niagara.
Buffalo State women's soccer: Meghan Jarrell (Hamburg) recorded nine saves to preserve a 0-0 tie at Plattsburgh. The Bengals (8-5-2 overall, 4-2-2 SUNYAC) won the penalty kicks, 4-3, the tiebreaker if the teams finish even in the conference standings.
SUNYAC men's hockey: James Muscatello scored the winning goal at 6:17 of the third period, just 19 seconds after Fredonia had killed off a Buffalo State (0-2) power play in a Fredonia 2-1 victory at the SUNYAC Challenge played at Cortland.
