Forums set by League of Women Voters
The League of Women Voters of Buffalo Niagara will sponsor candidate forums in several communities for the Nov. 4 election:
*Amherst -- 9 a.m. Thursday, breakfast with the candidates co-sponsored by and held in the Amherst Senior Center, 370 John James Audubon Parkway.
*Hamburg -- 7 p.m. Oct. 22 in Hilbert College's Swan Auditorium, 5200 South Park Ave.
*East Aurora -- 7 p.m. Oct. 23 in the Aurora Senior Center, Oakwood and King streets.
*Clarence -- 7 p.m. Oct. 27 in Town Hall on Goodrich Road.
For each forum, invitations have been issued to all candidates for countywide and town offices, plus those running for Congress, State Senate and Assembly in districts that include at least part of a particular town.
This year's edition of the Erie Niagara Voters' Guide, which compiles candidates' responses to a questionnaire, will be available by Oct. 20 in all branches of both counties' library systems as well as city, town and village halls.
Obama rally to be held prior to next debate
A rally supporting Democrat Barack Obama's presidential campaign will be held Wednesday in the Riviera Theatre, 67 Webster St., North Tonawanda, in conjunction with the next debate with Republican John McCain.
Live music and several speakers will be featured. Doors will be open from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Admission is free.
Several celebrations scheduled next month
Buffalo will celebrate its international Sister Cities with several events next month.
Mayor Byron W. Brown and the presidents of Buffalo's Sister Cities organizations will be hosts to the 10th annual Sister Cities Dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 13 in the Buffalo Yacht Club.
Also, the Hattie Harris Good Spirits Club International flag will be on display in the lobby of City Hall Nov. 6-14. In addition, there will be a celebration of International Thank-You Day on Nov. 7 in City Hall.
Buffalo's Sister Cities include Kanazawa, Japan; Lille, France; Drohobych, Ukraine; Dortmund, Germany; Torremaggiore, Italy; Tver, Russia; and Rzeszow, Poland.
