Broken bottle attack leads to prison sentence
LOCKPORT -- A Niagara Falls man who stabbed another man with a broken bottle in a dispute over money was sentenced to two years in state prison Friday by Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III.
Dedrick Williams, 28, of Sixth Street, had pleaded guilty to second-degree assault. The victim was stabbed in the abdomen and the arm in a May 18 confrontation in Niagara Falls, Assistant District Attorney Claudette S. Caldwell said.
Defense attorney James J. Faso said the victim owed money to Williams' cousin.
Florida man gets jail for sexually abusing girl
LOCKPORT -- A one-year jail term was imposed Friday on a Florida man who pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse.
Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III made the time run simultaneously with an unrelated Florida prison term being served by Daniel Bailey, 30, of Panama City, Fla. In May 2007, he was sentenced to three years behind bars there for grand theft auto.
After that, Bailey was extradited here to answer charges that he sexually abused an adolescent girl in the City of Lockport in November 1996.
Credit card purchases lead to felony charges
LOCKPORT -- A Lockport woman faces felony forgery and identity theft charges, accused of going on a shopping spree with a credit card stolen from an acquaintance.
Jessica L. Pittler, 18, of Fairview Drive, made $628 in purchases, state police said.
Arraigned by Lockport Town Justice Leonard G. Tilney Jr., she was being held in Niagara County jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
Two enter pleas in separate cases
LOCKPORT -- Two Niagara Falls residents, a man charged with burglary and a woman charged with crack cocaine possession, pleaded not guilty in separate Niagara County Court arraignments Friday.
Harley D. Glenn, 26, of 71st Street, denied charges of second-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief and petit larceny. He was accused of breaking into a Niagara Falls woman's home March 17.
Sonya L. Dennis, 41, of 17th Street, is charged with third- and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was arrested April 23 when police allegedly saw her and another woman drinking in a parked car at Main and Niagara streets and said they found 5.9 grams of crack cocaine.
Break-in reported at Gasport tavern
GASPORT -- A jukebox was damaged and an empty cash register tampered with during a break-in at Boyer's Tavern on Ridge Road after it closed Wednesday, Niagara County sheriff's deputies said.
The owner of the tavern, who estimated damage at $200, told deputies the intruder entered through a rear door.
Falls man accused of selling drugs
NIAGARA FALLS -- Police Narcotics Capt. Morris Shamrock said his unit on Thursday night arrested a mid-level drug dealer who allegedly had been making deals in the LaSalle area.
Dewayne M. Holland, 26, of South Avenue, was arrested at 11 p.m. in his car in the parking lot of a shopping center. Officers found a clear bag containing 11 plastic baggies packed with white powder, which tested positive for cocaine. The total weight was 7.1 grams, according to police.
Holland was charged with third and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
