>Woman accused of stealing painkillers to sell

Buffalo police have arrested an Attica woman on charges she stole painkillers from the health care facility where she worked and sold them on the street.

Angela C. Burek, 32, of Friedman Road, was arrested at 5:10 p.m. Monday in the Waterfront Health Care Center on Seventh Street.

Police said Burek admitted taking 72 prescription Loritab pills during the month of September.

She said she then sold the pills to people on the street, according to a report.

Burek was charged with fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a Class D felony, and petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor.

A spokesman for Kaleida Health, which runs the Seventh Street center, said the missing pills were discovered through a routine internal audit.

Kaleida officials notified police, and Burek has been fired, said spokesman Michael P. Hughes.
