Ronald F. Gesl, founder of local insurance company

Ronald Francis Gesl, a small business owner, died Thursday in Millard Fillmore Hospital following a short illness. He was 69.

A Buffalo native, Mr. Gesl had lived in the Town of Tonawanda for the past 20 years. He graduated from St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in 1957 and earned a liberal arts degree from Canisius College in 1966.

He was president of Independent Garage & Tower Contractors insurance company, which specializes in tow truck insurance. It is a division of McManus, Peard & McManus.

Mr. Gesl started the company in 1996. It is now licensed in 44 states.

He was a member of the local chapter of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society.

An avid reader, Mr. Gesl was a history buff who enjoyed skiing, Sabres games, trips to Disney World and Tanqueray gin.

Surviving are a son, Capt. Paul M.; his companion, Jeanne Allaire; and a sister, Catherine Bailey.

A memorial Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. today in St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd., Town of Tonawanda.
