Mary L. Bak, teacher's aide, former Niagara Gazette bookkeeper
June 11, 1929 -- Nov. 27, 2007

Mary L. Bak of Niagara Falls, a former payroll bookkeeper at the Niagara Gazette, died Tuesday in Millard Fillmore Hospital, Buffalo, after a brief illness. She was 78.

Born Mary Else in Williamsport, Pa., she moved to Niagara Falls with her family at an early age and attended local schools. She graduated from LaSalle High School in 1947.

Mrs. Bak worked at the Niagara Gazette from 1947 to 1959. After taking time off to raise a family, she worked as a teacher's aide for the Orleans Niagara Board of Cooperative Educational Services from 1976 until her retirement in 1996.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph S., a former printer at the Buffalo Courier-Express and The Buffalo News, and two daughters, Maryellen Pytlik and Jolene.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. John de LaSalle Catholic Church, 8469 Buffalo Ave.
