Credit union plans to award scholarship
Niagara County's Federal Credit Union is offering local high school seniors the chance to win a scholarship for any accredited two- or four-year college.
This is a statewide credit union scholarship program offered by the New York State Credit Union League.
To be eligible, students must be high school seniors attending college for the first time in the fall of 2008, as well as members of a participating New York State credit union.
Applicants will be judged based upon their academic achievements, extracurricular and community activities, and the quality of a written essay.
Last year, the New York State Credit Union League awarded $13,500 in scholarships, and Niagara County's Federal Credit Union awarded $1,000.

Niagara Hospice seeks additional volunteers
LOCKPORT -- Niagara Hospice volunteers provided more than 7,000 hours of support during the last year, doing everything from direct patient care to pet and music visits.
Volunteers make up 5 percent of the clinical work force hours at Niagara Hospice, as mandated by Medicare.
Due to the increase in volunteer requests, Alice Beck, Niagara Hospice director of volunteer services, is seeking more volunteer support.
Volunteers are needed for patient-related and nonpatient-related jobs, especially to help with music and pet visits for patients.
Beck also said that high school teens are needed to help with the Legacy Videos project started last year. By producing Legacy Videos, teens help patients record their life story on video or DVD, providing the patient and his or her family a long-lasting memory.
For information, call Beck at 439-4417 or e-mail email@example.com. More information on hospice can be found at www.niagarahospice.org.
