"Every time a bell rings, an angel get his wings," says little Zuzu in the holiday classic "It's a Wonderful Life."
Zuzu, now all grown up, will make a Christmas appearance in the Village of Lewiston on Dec. 9.
Known as an icon of the Christmas season, Karolyn Grimes, who played the part of Zuzu, will be greeting the public and speaking at 5 p.m. in the Barton Hill Hotel & Spa, 100 Center St.
Grimes will recount her tales of the making of the movie at a free event, which is open to the public. Her stories of filming under the direction of Frank Capra and working side-by-side with Jimmy Stewart are planned as a heart-warming way to spend a winter evening. Grimes will be at the hotel afterward to sign autographs for free and visit with fans. Visitors may bring copies of the movie for Grimes to sign.
Now 66, Grimes was just 6 years old when she appeared in the film.
"When we first came to Lewiston at Christmas, we just kept saying, 'This is just like Bedford Falls,' so when we opened our hotel we reached out to her," said Diane Finkbeiner, who co-owns Barton Hill with her husband, Ed.
The couple moved to Lewiston from Southern California about five years ago.
"Plus this is Ed's favorite Christmas movie. I think he starts watching in June," added Diane Finkbeiner.
She said Grimes speaks by invitation only and said the event is "just plain fun."
Diane Finkbeiner said a Breakfast for Santa will also be offered that morning at a time to be announced.
