The student section at Canisius, known as the C-Block, has been improving the atmosphere for men's basketball games at the Koessler Center for the last few years.
Saturday, they took their show down to the Buffalo State Ice Arena for the Griffs hockey clash with RIT and created a great game day atmosphere.
The place was boisterous the entire game with RIT fans into the game early and Canisius fans standing and cheering the entire time in a 6-2 win for the Griffs.
"There was a lot of energy from the crowd. It was a great crowd," Canisius coach Dave Smith said. "I think that energy really went into the players and it helped us a lot."
The only critique of the C-Block is the same that goes for the student section at Niagara hockey games -- the lack of a "sieve" chant to gently taunt the other team's goalie. You don't even have to be original -- borrow an existing one from another team -- just please, someone start one. Then the atmosphere will really feel like a college hockey game.
