165th Fair is ready with a lot of activity

LITTLE VALLEY -- Advance sale admission tickets to the 165th annual Cattaraugus County Fair are available through today, with opening day set for Monday. The fair runs through next Sunday.

The presale price is $7, while the regular general admission is $9. The price includes one-day gate admission, unlimited rides on Powers Great American Midway, free grounds entertainment, free grandstand Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and free parking on 18 acres behind the grandstand.
Fairgoers are urged to purchase presale tickets to avoid standing in line, said Nell Fellows, a fair official.

Most entries are "right on target" from last year, with cow entries up slightly, she said. All cattle barns are full, she said.

On Wednesday, Youth Day, admission will be $6 from 1 to 4 p.m. for those under 15.

On Thursday, senior citizens over 62 will be admitted for $6 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Grandstand seats for the Charlie Daniels Band performance Thursday are $20, with some track seating available for $25.

Grandstand seats are $3 for Friday and Saturday evening truck events and $5 Sunday evening for the demolition derby.

Last year, fair attendance was 68,000.

Free events today include an open horse show and 4-H animal shows, which continue all week; the Praise and Worship Festival, a poultry show and market animal weigh-in.

Most cattle and other animal entries will be in place by today, and some judging will also take place.

Free daily ground entertainment events include Horses, Horses, Horses; Kay Rosaire's Big Cat Encounter; Granpa Cratchet puppet show; Indian River Olde Time Lumberjack Show; chain saw carving; racing pigs and a petting zoo.

Events for the grandstand include:

*Monday, 7:30 p.m., demolition derby.

*Tuesday, 7 p.m., Firemen's parade; 7:30 p.m. Figure 8 races.

*Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., tractor and truck pulls.

*Thursday, 7:30 p.m., Charlie Daniels Band.

*Friday, 6 p.m., veterans parade; 7:30 p.m., monster truck rally.

*Saturday, 7:30 p.m., East Coast Pullers truck pulls.

*Sunday, 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. demolition derbies.
