The Buffalo News and America's Fair, which opens shortly at the McKinley Parkway fairgrounds in Hamburg, are looking for volunteers to distribute complimentary newspapers to fairgoers as they enter parking areas. Volunteers are needed between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Aug. 10, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17. Two volunteers are needed for each of the fair's five gates.

The Erie County Lifelong Learning Consortium seeks retired teachers or other professionals willing to give a one hour lecture or teach a short course for students age 60 and older. Courses are held throughout Erie County, in senior centers that are comfortable and have convenient parking. The goal is to provide older adults with classes that are enjoyable and intellectually stimulating. Faculty can expect students who are enthusiastic, willing to question and discuss, and who are there because they want to learn.
The Fall 2007 semester runs from September to November. There is keen interest in courses on music and art appreciation, world religions, American history (including local history), the Middle East, an introduction to genetics and bioengineering, and many others.
For more information, call the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Erie County Senior Services at 858-7548.
Information on other volunteer activities is available through the Volunteer Center of the United Way at 887-2690 or visit its Web site at www.uwbec.org.
Agencies and organizations looking for volunteers are invited to submit requests to be included in this column. Send e-mail requests to email@example.com or write to Paula Voell, The Buffalo News, P.O. Box 100, Buffalo, N.Y. 14240.
