George D. Bowen, of Orchard Park, a retired telephone company manager, died Thursday in Mercy Hospital. He was 73.
Born in Gowanda, he was a 1952 graduate of Gowanda High School and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He later received a degree in electronics from Alfred State Technical College.
Mr. Bowen worked at IBM and at Moog Servo Control in East Aurora before beginning a 30-year career at the former New York Telephone Co. He retired from a management position at the telephone company in 1993.
He was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, where he led the missions committee. He was also a member of Post 567, American Legion, and Post 6247, Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Orchard Park.
His wife of 46 years, the former Marjorie Sager, died in 2005.
Surviving are four sons, Daniel, Greg, John and David.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Faith United Church of Christ, 8651 Boston State Road, Boston.
