>Kurzawa is sworn in as interim superintendent
SILVER CREEK -- David Kurzawa was sworn in Wednesday as interim superintendent of the Silver Creek Central Schools during the School Board's reorganization meeting.
Martha Howard was unanimously re-elected president of the board. Matt Bogosian will serve as vice president.
Kurzawa will lead the district's search for a successor for Gordon Salisbury, who took the superintendent's position at Cleveland Hill School District in Cheektowaga.
The board approved an extra $125 per week for District Clerk Linda Borrello because of Salisbury's departure.
District Treasurer Dennis Corsaro, who is going with Salisbury, tendered his resignation effective July 16; it was accepted Wednesday.
The board heard a presentation by elementary Principal Lynn Gowan on universal prekindergarten that will be offered this fall. A committee of community members and school employees served on the planning team for the new program.
Lake Shore Family Care Center received the community partner portion of the universal prekindergarten grant money. The center will receive $8,960 for three children at the site in Irving.
>GCC board re-elects Noonan chairwoman
BATAVIA -- Marcia H. Noonan of Batavia was elected to a second year as chairwoman of the Genesee Community College board of trustees during the annual meeting this week.
Noonan, wife of County judge Robert C. Noonan, has been on the 10-member board since 2001 and previously served as vice chairwoman. She is the executive director of Victorian Manor, a residence for seniors.
Also re-elected were Vice Chairwoman Laura J. Miller of Alexander and Secretary Charles R. Ruffino of Batavia.
The college also announced that it had been fully accredited for the next 10 years by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
