A defensive gem by Buffalo Bisons second baseman Luis Rivas helped the International League continue its dominance against the Pacific Coast League in the Triple-A All-Star Game Wednesday night.
Rivas made a twisting, over-the-shoulder catch of a pop-up by Fresno's Tomas De La Rosa in the eighth inning of the IL's 7-5 triumph before 12,367 at Isotopes Park. The PCL loaded the bases in the frame before Rochester's Bobby Korecky fanned Albuquerque's Robert Andino to end the threat.
Rivas was robbed of a home run in his lone at-bat in the seventh. He hit a long drive off Oklahoma's Mike Wood that left fielder Delwyn Young of Las Vegas brought back in from over the wall. Bisons first baseman Ryan Mulhern grounded into a double play in his only at-bat for the IL, which has won four of five. The Herd is at Durham tonight (7 p.m., Radio 1230, 1330 AM).
Toledo's Mike Hessman and Pawtucket's Brandon Moss hit back-to-back homers in the first as the IL never trailed.
