>Motorcyclist injured seriously in collision

WHEATFIELD -- A North Tonawanda man was in serious condition Tuesday in Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, after his motorcycle and a car collided here late Monday.

Joshua Newell, 23, of Ward Road, was southbound on Ward at about 10:05 p.m., when his motorcycle was struck by a northbound vehicle turning left onto Homeyer Road, Niagara County sheriff's deputies said.

Newell suffered arm, head and chest injuries, deputies said. The other driver, Jody Fisher, 35, of Grand Island, was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for treatment of what officers described as minor injuries.

>Church reports theft from collection boxes

NIAGARA FALLS -- Collection boxes at a city church, across from the Seneca Niagara Casino, were broken into overnight Monday, and cash and checks were stolen.

A church official told city police Tuesday that St. Mary Catholic Church on Fourth Street had locks removed on three collection boxes. The official told police the amount was unknown but estimated it at $150. Film from a security camera was also removed.

>Guilty plea entered in cocaine case

LOCKPORT -- A Royalton man admitted Tuesday possession of more than an ounce of powdered cocaine in his home last year.

Christopher R. Jagielo, 21, of Simms Road, pleaded guilty to fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Niagara County Judge Peter L. Broderick Sr. scheduled sentencing for Sept. 12. Assistant District Attorney Peter M. Wydysh said police armed with a search warrant found the cocaine June 23, 2006.

>Steel framing stolen from casino warehouse

NIAGARA FALLS -- More than $15,000 worth of stainless steel framing being stored outdoors was stolen from the Seneca Niagara Casino warehouse this past weekend.

The warehouse manager told city police that the framing was being stored outside on pallets at the Buffalo Avenue site due to its size and weight.
