Crash of minivan kills Falls, Ont., woman, 39

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ont. -- A 39-year-old Niagara Falls, Ont., woman was killed late Saturday when her minivan crashed down an embankment and into a dried-up creek bed on Niagara River Parkway.

Niagara Regional Police Service withheld her pending notification of her family. The woman was eastbound on the parkway in McFarland House Park just before 11 p.m. A coroner pronounced her dead at the scene.

Teen accused of shooting fireballs at cars, houses

NIAGARA FALLS -- A teen was arrested late Saturday after police said he shot fireballs at passing cars and nearby houses from a burning Roman candle.

Anthony N. Adams 16, of Cleveland Avenue, was taken into custody at 11:20 p.m. in the 1300 block of 22nd Street. He was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, false personation, unlawfully dealing with fireworks and disorderly conduct. Police said they also confiscated a kitchen knife from Adams' shorts.

Fights at Falls bars lead to injuries, arrest

NIAGARA FALLS -- Four people were injured and one arrested early Sunday as police investigated three closing-time fights at downtown bars.

Two Buffalo women told police they were attacked inside the women's restroom at Player's bar on Niagara Street at about 3 a.m. A woman pulled the hair of one of the victims, ripping out clumps of hair, then punched her friend twice in the head and broke a beer bottle over her head.

A California man was punched in the face and knocked unconscious in the 300 block of Niagara Street at about 3:30 a.m. Police arrested Korey D. White, 29, of Gowanda, charging him with third-degree assault and harassment. The victim suffered a possible broken nose but refused treatment.

Officers broke up a crowd of 60 to 70 people engaged in a large fight outside the Highland Bar and Grill shortly after 3 a.m., police said. During the melee, an Ontario Avenue woman reported being struck in the face with a large glass bottle, opening a wound that required stitches.

Police said her assailant was able to flee by mixing in with the crowd as officers dispersed the combatants.

Man hurt confronting suspected drug dealer

NIAGARA FALLS -- A man was hit on the head with a beer bottle after he confronted a suspected drug dealer selling fake crack cocaine, police said Sunday.

The incident occurred at the corner of 19th Street and Ferry Avenue just before 11 p.m. Saturday. The victim, a resident of the area, told police a man had ripped off some area residents by selling them fake drugs, then hit him over the head with a bottle when he intervened.

The victim was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center to have glass removed from his scalp and for treatment of a large cut. Lewis E. Bogan, 21, of Cleveland Avenue, was charged with second-degree assault.

Woman beaten, robbed by boyfriend, police say

NIAGARA FALLS -- A North Avenue woman was beaten and robbed by her boyfriend early Sunday as she looked for her lost cat at North and Lockport streets, police reported.

The woman was confronted at about 1:40 a.m. by the boyfriend, who pushed her and punched her twice in the head, officers said. He then stole her cell phone when she attempted to call police, smashing it on the ground.

Diamond bracelet stolen from home in Falls

NIAGARA FALLS -- A diamond tennis bracelet was stolen from a C Street home sometime between Thursday and Sunday, and police say the victim's boyfriend is suspected.

The $323 bracelet was removed from a dresser. The woman told police her boyfriend, whom she recently discovered may have a drug problem, could have been involved.
