United Memorial opens outpatient testing site

PEMBROKE -- United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia has opened a new outpatient testing site in Pembroke, officials announced.

The center, which opened Monday, will provide laboratory and radiology tests for patients.

The hospital has a similar site in Le Roy, and plans to open a third in the former St. Jerome Hospital in downtown Batavia.

Folk festival places accent on Scandinavia

JAMESTOWN -- The sixth annual Scandinavian Folk Festival will be held July 20-22 at Jamestown Community College.

The festival focuses on musical entertainment, Scandinavian foods and products, exhibits and demonstrations.

A schedule may be obtained by calling the JCC box office, 338-1187, or online at www.scandinavianjamestown.org.

The festival also features a wine and beer garden and workshops in Scandinavian crafts, chip carving and Hardanger embroidery. Gammaldans, lawn games and dance lessons are scheduled, as are programs by the Children's Museum of Jamestown. Scandinavian food and gifts will be available for purchase.

Festival hours are 3 to 10 p.m. July 20, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 21 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 22.

Sheriff's Office to open Le Roy substation Saturday

LE ROY -- The Genesee County Sheriff's Office will open a substation Saturday in Le Roy in connection with the relocation of its main headquarters.

The Le Roy station, with three deputies, will share space in Le Roy Town Hall with a State Police satellite office. The move is designed to enhance police protection and provide a quicker response to calls in the eastern half of the county, Sheriff Gary T. Maha said.

The department has another substation in Darien Town Hall. A move to a new administration building is now set for September. Its location on Park Road is about 1 1/2 miles west of the present downtown headquarters.
