Ernest L. Shephard, career salesman Feb. 11, 1941 -- June 26, 2007

Services for Ernest L. Shephard of Buffalo, a career salesman who was active in his church and community, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in St. John Baptist Church, 184 Goodell St.

Mr. Shephard died Tuesday in Sisters Hospital after a brief illness. He was 66.

Born in Bessemer, Ala., Mr. Shepherd graduated from high school and moved to this area, continuing a sales career that started in a store in his hometown.

He was a salesman for Coca-Cola, Pepsi-Cola, Try-It Distributors, J&M, and Colony Liquor and Wines.

He joined St. John Baptist Church in 1984 and became an active member. He served as the leader of Boy Scout Troop 184, was superintendent and a teacher in the adult division of Sunday school and was a member of the finance committee and assistant treasurer of the church. He became a deacon in 2004.

A Mason, Mr. Shephard was a member of Bison Consistory 29; past master of Paramount Lodge 73, Prince Hall; and honorary past potentate of Hadji Temple 61.

Survivors include his wife, the former Mildred Cox; two sons, Derick A. and Demetrius A.; a brother, James E. Hill; and a sister, Claudia Washington.
