>Power lines, poles fall after truck snags wires

KIANTONE -- High-tension power lines along Peck Settlement Road came tumbling down about 9:30 a.m. Thursday after the driver of a dump truck forgot to lower his dump box, Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies said.

The driver of the vehicle, James Stelmack, 29, of Westfield had just dumped a load of gravel in the rear parking lot of National Fuel, and pulled forward with the dump box still up, catching the power lines, snapping a pole on Route 60 and dropping the lines on the highway, deputies said.

Kiantone firefighters redirected traffic while National Grid repaired the damage, deputies said. No charges were filed.
