Aetna Johnson Lowther, who played the piano at an East Side church for 80 years, died Sunday in her home. She was 92.
Mrs. Lowther, who was born in Gurdon, Ark., and moved to Buffalo when she was 9, attended School 32. In 1930, she married Russell Lowther, who died in 2002.
In addition to working as an elevator operator at Hutchinson-Central Technical High School for many years, Mrs. Lowther was an active member of Pentecostal Church of God in Christ on Jefferson Avenue for nearly her entire life.
In addition to teaching Sunday school, Mrs. Lowther was the church pianist and a member of the choir for eight decades.
She is survived by a son, Hubert, and a brother, Harrison Dockery.
A wake will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, 618 Jefferson Ave., with funeral services following at 11.
