Big roar on the mound in Tigertown

7192 has put together a four-minute montage of all 27 outs of Justin Verlander's no-hitter Tuesday night in Detroit. It was a dominant performance by a pitcher whose stuff was called "filthy" by some Brewers after the game.

The Tigers' choice of Verlander out of Old Dominion with the No. 1 draft pick of 2004 coincides with their rise in the AL Central. Before the opener of the World Series last year, I was in among about a dozen reporters talking to Verlander at his locker and he recounted watching the Tigers in his college dorm trying to avoid losing 120 games on the final day of the 2003 season. We asked if he wanted to get drafted by a team that bad and he said he was all for it because it was a quicker path to the big leagues.

Indeed, Verlander skipped Triple-A entirely and was a backbone of a Series team in 2006. He might be on another one in 2007.

Here's's coverage of the no-hitter.

Here's the coverage from the Detroit Free Press.
