Salamanca man sentenced for rape, sex crimes

A repeat felon from Salamanca was sentenced Monday in Cattaraugus County Court to serve up to three years in prison for rape and sex crimes.

Calvin Williams, 49, was sentenced by Judge Larry M. Himelein to serve two concurrent terms of 1 1/2 to three years in prison for his conviction of third-degree rape and third-degree criminal sex act.

District Attorney Edward M. Sharkey said the crimes involved a female under age 17 and took place March 17-18 in the cities of Olean and Salamanca.

Kevin Todd, 26, of Buffalo, was sentenced as a second felony offender to two years in prison followed by a year of post-release supervision for his conviction of fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

Sharkey said Todd was selling crack cocaine May 20, 2006, in the City of Olean.

Byron McCants, 37, of Ellicottville, was sentenced to six months in jail, five years' probation and restitution of $7,351 for his conviction of first-degree criminal contempt Dec. 18 in the Village of Ellicottville.
Authorities said McCants disregarded an order of protection by striking a person the order was to protect.

Terry M. Gaylor, 53, of Olean, was sentenced to five years' probation and fined $2,000 for his conviction of driving while intoxicated Dec. 2, 2005, in the City of Olean.

Darla M. Jones, 26, of Perrysburg, was sentenced to five years' probation for her conviction of second-degree assault for attempting to injure a state trooper as she was being arrested.

Jones was also sentenced to serve two concurrent three-year probation terms for her conviction of resisting arrest and DWI. All three charges resulted from her arrest Oct. 13, 2005, in the Town of Persia.

Shannon G. Hoag, 36, of Olean, was sentenced to five years' probation and fined $2,000 for her conviction of DWI Aug. 8, 2005, in the City of Olean.

Kim W. Smith, 37, of Conewango, was sentenced to five years' probation and fined $3,000 for her conviction of DWI Jan. 17 in Salamanca. She was driving with an alcohol blood level of 0.19 percent.
