Driver killed when truck enters marsh off Thruway

A Rochester man was killed early Saturday morning when his truck left the Thruway in Le Roy and crashed into a marsh.

James P. McEntee, 54, was eastbound at about 3:45 a.m. when his vehicle left the road, struck several signs and dropped 15 feet into a marsh, state police said. He had no passengers.

McEntee was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation into the accident continues.


Woman, 2-year-old struck by car on Millersport Hwy.

An 18-year-old woman and a young child have been hospitalized after they were struck by a car Friday on Millersport Highway in Amherst.

The woman was carrying the 2-year-old across Millersport at the intersection of Flint Road when they were struck by a northbound vehicle, Amherst police said.

The child was taken to Women and Children's Hospital. A hospital spokesman was awaiting permission from the child's parents before disclosing the victim's condition. The young woman was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where her condition also was not given out. The driver of the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am was not injured.

Amherst police said the investigation is continuing into the accident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m.


5 injured in SUV crash with car, pedestrian

Five people were hospitalized Friday following a crash involving two vehicles and a pedestrian on East Ferry Street, police said.

A Chevrolet Suburban was heading east on East Ferry near Masten Avenue at about 9 p.m. when it struck a car, hit a pole and rolled. The sport utility vehicle then struck a pedestrian and a parked car, according to reports.

The pedestrian, Raymond Knight, was treated and released from Erie County Medical Center. Police officials had no address for the 52-year-old victim.

Also hospitalized was the SUV driver, Huey Wilson, 20 of Grote Street. His 32-year-old passenger, Mark Waller, was treated and released from ECMC.

Marvin Harris, 45, the driver of the Honda struck by Wilson's SUV, was taken to Millard Fillmore Hospital, as was his passenger, SynyerHanesworth, 60, of West Tupper Street. Hospital officials declined to release information on their conditions.


Woman attacked by man she met in tavern

A woman was sexually attacked early Saturday morning in a downtown parking lot by a man she met in a Franklin Street bar.

The woman said the attack occurred at about 1 a.m. after she walked the man to his car. The victim told police the assailant tried to force her to commit a sex act. She bit him, then punched him in the nose. As she got out of the vehicle, she told police the man said, "You will pay big time for this."

The victim said she went back into the bar to get a friend. When she left, she discovered that a window on her 1997 Ford Explorer had been smashed. Three rings, a cell phone and other valuables were missing.

The victim told police the assailant was a 27-year-old man who goes by the name "Dan."


Amherst man says acquaintance shot him

An Amherst man was shot in the arm early Saturday as he was driving his car at Bailey and Stockbridge avenues.

The victim told police he was inside his Lexus at about 3 a.m. when a man he knows approached the car carrying a silver handgun. The assailant fired several shots, and one bullet struck the driver under the left arm. The victim drove himself to Erie County Medical Center where he was treated for wounds that were not considered life-threatening.
