Must-see movies of summer

After about six months of winter, summer's finally here. The weather's warm. The sun's bright. What's a better way to spend a day than sitting in a dark, sticky-floored movie theater? With much-anticipated blockbusters, sequels and trilogies hitting theaters, NeXt predicts the top 10 must-see movies this summer.

The beach will have to wait.

Action, high-risks and big-name stars including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Bernie Mac and Matt Damon mean once again this third movie in the franchise won't need luck to make it a success.

9. "Sicko"

Before your brain turns to mush this summer, educate yourself with director Michael Moore's ("Fahrenheit 9/1 1") new documentary on the state of health care in the U.S. Sound boring? Maybe not. 8. "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer"

It just isn't quite summer without comic book movie adaptations, and this summer does not disappoint with the release of "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer." With the first "Fantastic Four" grossing more than $300 million and high hopes that the sequel will be better than the somewhat disappointing first, the anticipation for it has been "fantastic."

7. "Hairspray"

Based on the 1988 comedy and the 2002 Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, "Hairspray" will have new and old fans alike dancing their way into theaters. Featuring the all-star cast of John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Amanda Bynes and preteen heartthrob Zac Efron, this musical mixes feel-good music with important social issues of the '60s.

6. "Evan Almighty"

In the sequel to the extremely popular "Bruce Almighty," Steve Carell dons Noah's beard and plays a U.S. congressman called by God (the wonderful Morgan Freeman) to build an ark. It sails into theaters June 22.

5. "The Simpsons Movie"

After 18 seasons, 400 episodes and millions of doughnuts, everyone's favorite dysfunctional cartoon family is coming to the big screen. Due out July 27, the movie features Homer saving the world from ... Homer.

4. "Shrek the Third"

Shrek's beloved characters, fairytale twists, and crude yet cute humor have brought everyone's favorite ogre box-office success and made this third installment an absolute must-see.

3. "Spider-Man 3"

Despite mixed reviews and debate on whether it holds up to the previous two, there's no denying Spidey's grip on the box office, bringing in more than $151 million opening weekend.

2. "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"

The boy wizard is back, though not quite a boy any longer. Fans can't seem to wait to head back to Hogwarts for Harry's fifth and probably darkest year yet. Being released only seven days before the final book, Pottermania is sure to be more magical than ever.

1. "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End"

The action figures, mile-long premiere red carpet, box office records and sheer number of savvy fans speaks for itself on this one. The greatly treasured franchise met its "end" May 25, though devoted fans continue to come out in droves to say "bon voyage" to Captain Jack and his crew.
