>Trial in dismemberment postponed to Sept. 10

LOCKPORT -- The trial of Richard W. Matt, charged with killing and dismembering a North Tonawanda businessman in 1997, was postponed Monday from July 30 to Sept. 10.

Matt, 40, formerly of Minerva Street, City of Tonawanda, was extradited from Mexico in January. He had fled there after being questioned by police in connection with the death of William Rickerson, 76. Matt ended up killing a man in a bar fight in Matamoros and serving time in a Mexican prison until January.


>Chautauqua man, 50, faces child-sex charges

CHAUTAUQUA -- A 50-year-old Town of Chautauqua man faces several criminal charges in connection with his alleged sexual involvement with three female juveniles dating back to 2003, sheriff's deputies said.

Arthur J. Reid Sr., of Lyons Road, allegedly committed numerous sexual acts on three separate female juveniles at his home between the summer of 2003 and this February, police said.

Reid was charged with three counts of course of sexual conduct against a child. He was arraigned and sent to Chautauqua County Jail pending $30,000 cash bail or $60,000 property bond.
