Sonia Przybysz, founder in 1957 of Cheektowaga Senior Citizens <br> March 19, 1910 -- April 27, 2007

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sonia Przybysz of Cheektowaga, a senior citizens leader for nearly 50 years, will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Mother of the Rosary Cathedral, 6298 Broadway, Lancaster.

She died Friday in Erie County Medical Center after a short illness. She was 97.

Mrs. Przybysz founded the Cheektowaga Senior Citizens Group on Alexander Street in 1957 and was its leader until 2005. She organized all the group's trips and activities.

She previously worked as a payroll clerk in Buffalo City Hall for nine years.

Born Sonia Hencinski in Buffalo, she graduated from Fosdick-Masten High School.

She was a member of the committee that worked to centralize the Cheektowaga School District and served as president of the Cheektowaga Central PTA for 12 years. She also worked on the Adult Education Advisory Committee for about 30 years. She was named an outstanding citizen in Cheektowaga in 1963.

She also volunteered for many years at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Her husband, Joseph, died in 1981.

Surviving is a son, Joseph E.
