'Habitat' home is hit by thieves a second time

NIAGARA FALLS -- A house being rehabilitated by Niagara Area Habitat for Humanity was broken into for the second time in the past three weeks, police said Saturday.

A plywood-covered window from the previous break-in at the B Street house was broken into during the recent break-in, police said. Several items were stolen from the basement. An inventory was being conducted.

Speeding past officers leads to driver's arrest

NIAGARA FALLS -- A Norwood Avenue man has been charged with drunken and reckless driving after police said he sped past officers involved in another traffic stop.

Michael J. Sullivan, 31, who was arrested at about 1:45 p.m. Friday on the 2800 block of Whirlpool Street, also was charged with speeding, aggravated unlicensed operation and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Officers Paul Warmington and Todd Faddoul said Sullivan was behind the wheel of a car that sped by them on Bellevue Avenue, passed other vehicles and ran a red light before hitting a tree near Findlay Avenue.

Warmington said he found an open bottle of whiskey. Sullivan's driver's license had been suspended.

Burglary report results in two arrests in Falls

NIAGARA FALLS -- Two men were arrested Friday evening after police received a report of a burglary at a home under renovation on 13th Street.

Brian M. Harrold, 22, and Antonio V. Cook, 41, both of 13th Street, were charged with third-degree burglary, petit larceny and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Witnesses told police they saw a man break a side window at about 7:45 p.m., then enter the home with a companion.

Teen girls robbed, sexually assaulted

NIAGARA FALLS -- Police said three preteen boys mugged and sexually abused three teenage girls Friday night near the Little League baseball diamonds at Hyde Park.

The victims told police they were walking near Hyde Park Boulevard and Linwood Avenue about 9:30 p.m. when one of the boys threatened them with a brick. The boys stole a digital camera, cellular telephone and $2 in cash from the purse of one of the victims. The boys fled when a parent of one of the victims drove up to the scene, police said.

Man's car burglarized; TV, 60 CDs stolen

NIAGARA FALLS -- A Lewiston man's car was burglarized Saturday while parked at the Inn on the River on Buffalo Avenue, police said.

Someone broke three windows in the vehicle and stole an in-dash television set and 60 compact discs. The loss was estimated at $1,210.

Roofing shingles stolen from home's front yard

NIAGARA FALLS -- Three men stole roofing shingles valued at $1,000 from the front yard of a Niagara Avenue home Friday evening, police said.

Neighbors told police the three pulled up in a vehicle shortly before 7 p.m., took the shingles from the home in the 2200 block of Niagara Avenue and drove off.
