Class act / An outstanding young Western New Yorker

Victoria L. Oyoyo, a sophomore at Holy Angels Academy, has been selected to attendLeadAmerica's Congressional Student Leadership Conference this summer at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. She'll study law there.
The 15-year-old said she is excited about the opportunity because she would like to study international business and eventually go into corporate law.

"I think the business world would be a great career for me," said Victoria, who lives in Lake View. "Law is eventually something I want to end up in because I like to help people and settle disputes."

The 2005 graduate of the Buffalo Prep program describes herself as someone with a "strong personality."

She recalls that she "spent 14 months striving through the high school prep program [an academic-enrichment program for minority students] to eventually graduate and get into my private school."

"With results of the program, I realized that I was a strong person and could handle anything if I put my all into it. If I tried my hardest, I could succeed."

Victoria currently pitches in with church youth ministries and participates in youth choir. She also passes on some of the encouragement she received at Buffalo Prep.

"I help my friends to achieve their goals in school, like raising their grades," she said.
