Sister Mary V. O'Loughlin, teacher of religion

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Mary Vianney O'Loughlin, a religious education teacher in local parish schools for more than 50 years, will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Chapel of St. Mary of the Angels, 201 Reist St., Williamsville.

Sister Mary died Sunday in St. Mary of the Angels Health Care Center. She was 89.

Born Agnes O'Loughlin in Kenmore, she entered the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Divine Child in 1937.

Sister Mary had expertise in teaching religious education to both rural and urban children who attended public schools. She taught in rural missions, including in Mayville, Jamestown, Batavia and Belmont, as well as at St. Augustine Mission in Buffalo and St. John Maron in Amherst.

She also undertook home visitation in Buffalo, Auburn, Rochester and Brooklyn, as well as in Crystal City, Texas.
