It doesn't seem enough to call the Tworeks simply a family. They are more like a dynasty. Matthew Tworek retired from a distinguished career as first violinist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and continues to perform. His daughter Adrienne Tworek-Gryta is a renowned singer.
And recently, the Buffalo music world has awakened to the talents of yet another Tworek generation. Twelve-year-old Emily Tworek Helenbrook -- the granddaughter of Matthew Tworek -- is already being billed as a coloratura soprano. Young Helenbrook, who also plays piano and flute, studies voice at the Eastman School of Music with Patricia Alexander, the mother of diva Renee Fleming.
Sunday, the three generations of Tworeks will meet for a 2 p.m. recital in Canisius College's Christ the King Chapel. Sponsored by the college's Permanent Chair of Polish Culture, the concert is free and open to all. A reception with the artists will follow the program.
