Amherst man, 31, stabbed outside downtown club

A 31-year-old Amherst man was stabbed in the back several times early Monday in the downtown entertainment district, police reported.

The victim, Richard Chaffee, was in serious condition Monday in Erie County Medical Center's intensive care unit.

Buffalo Police Department spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge said the victim began arguing with another man at about 1:20 a.m. inside Club Marcella, 622 Main St.

DeGeorge said the altercation spilled outside the club, where the man used a small knife to stab the victim on the sidewalk at the east side of a Pearl Street parking lot.

The attacker fled on foot and is being sought by police.
