Vanner Insurance named Kim Castiglione a senior account manager and Ron Muffler producer at the Amherst agency. Castiglione, with more than five years' experience in the insurance industry, most recently was with Lawley Insurance. She holds a degree in travel from Johnson and Wales University. Muffler, most recently with Lawley Insurance, has more than 35 years of experience. Vanner Insurance is the endorsed agency of the Food Industry Alliance of New York State.

The SmartPill Corp., a Buffalo-based developer of capsule-based medical devices, began trials of the SmartPill GI Monitoring System for use in animal health. The animal trials are being conducted at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. The primary aim of the trial is to validate the use of the SmartPill for the measurement of transit time, pH, temperature and luminal pressure in the gastrointestinal tracts of horses and dogs.
The Jamestown office of certified public accounting firm Buffamante Whipple Buttafaro is scheduled to move to an office building being developed at the corner of Third and Washington streets by Orchard Park-based Krog Corp. The new building will bear the company's name, The BWB Center. Completion of construction is expected during the summer of 2008.
