'Boom Days' festivities include fireworks
NIAGARA FALLS -- A 10-minute fireworks display will highlight today's third annual Boom Days festivities at the LaSalle Yacht Club, 73 S. 68 St.
The program is free, though patrons will be asked to make a $5 donation by purchasing a "passport to spring" to support the event. The program will feature historic re-enactors dressed as Cavalier LaSalle, Father Hennepin and others, as well as other entertainment. The fireworks display will occur at about 8 p.m.
Boom Days celebrates the lifting of the Lake Erie-Niagara River ice boom and the return of spring.
Free 3-week session to improve credit rating
LOCKPORT -- A free three-week session on rebuilding or obtaining credit, sponsored by First Niagara Bank and Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Buffalo, begins Monday in St. John's Outreach Center, 160 Chestnut St.
The "Credit When Credit Is Due" financial education course can be used to place a positive statement on a credit report. Participants must attend all sessions, to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 23 and 30. First Niagara will place $50 into the bank account of all who successfully complete the course.

Independence Party to hold interviews
WHEATFIELD -- The Niagara County Independence Party will hold two rounds of interviews next week for prospective candidates who are interested in the party's endorsement for this fall's election.
Chairman David MacNeil said interviews will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday in Wheatfield Community Center behind Town Hall, 2800 Church Road.
Another round is set from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Saturday in Suzanne's Fine Dining, 2843 Niagara Falls Blvd.
