Allegany County legislators Monday accepted an Amherst firm's offer for stop-loss workers' compensation insurance coverage.
The Legislature accepted the $51,819 bid submitted by Humphrey & Vandervoort on behalf of Safety National Insurance Corp.
The county is self-insured for most compensation cases, with the supplementary coverage as a cushion.
* The Legislature created a community service worker's position -- fully state-funded -- in the Office for the Aging and created a transfer station operator's position in the Public Works Department, dropping a motor equipment operator post.
* Allegany/Cattaraugus Legal Services of Angelica was awarded a contract to provide legal services to indigent defendants who have conflicts with the public defender's office. The contract tops out at $198,000 for a year, with expenses for expert witnesses and other costs not to exceed $5,000.
* The Legislature accepted a $39,940 state grant for the Real Property Tax Service. The service will use the money to gain technology to allow public access to tax maps and assessment records on the county's Web site.
