>Car and foot chase ends in charges including DWI
A Lawtons man who led an Erie County sheriff's deputy on a car and foot chase Sunday morning was charged with driving while intoxicated and other counts.
Eric W. Schindler, 40, refused a breath test after being arrested in a wooded area.
Deputy Warren Hawthorn spotted a vehicle being driven erratically at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday. He repeatedly tried to pull the vehicle over as it traveled at slow speeds through North Collins and the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation.
When the vehicle finally stopped, Hawthorn said, Schindler fled into the woods. Aided by Seneca Nation marshals, the deputy apprehended him.
In addition to DWI, Schindler faces charges of obstructing governmental administration and felony aggravated unlicensed operation.
