>Careless smoking linked to Newfane house fire
NEWFANE -- Careless use of smoking materials is suspected in a Friday night fire that caused $50,000 damage to a Hess Road home, Niagara County sheriff's deputies said.
The 7:41 p.m. blaze at 2658 Hess Road started in an upper rear bedroom, where a son of the owner had been smoking, according to reports. Members of the Miller Hose and Olcott volunteer fire departments brought the fire under control. No injuries were reported.

NIAGARA FALLS -- An altercation with another patron in the parking lot of the Seneca Niagara Casino led to the arrest of a Scottsville woman Saturday night.
Police charged Deana E. Schermerhorn, 39, with a felony count of driving while intoxicated. She was taken into custody shortly after 9 p.m.
According to reports, the DWI was charged as a felony because it was Schermerhorn's third such offense.

NIAGARA FALLS -- An automobile navigation system and an iPod were stolen when a car was broken into overnight while parked in an east lot of the Niagara Falls Boulevard Econo Lodge hotel, police said.
The car, belonging to a Falls Street resident, had a driver's side window smashed out. The global positioning system device was valued at $400, with total loss set at $700.
>Molestation suspect stopped in Salamanca
SALAMANCA -- A man wanted on a child molestation charge in Florida was jailed after a traffic stop Saturday in Salamanca.
Mark A. Kobinski, 25, of 94 Wilson St., was pulled over on Broad Street for driving without a front license plate.
A computer check revealed an arrest warrant was issued in Sarasota County, Fla., charging Kobinski with "lewd and lascivious molestation" of a young boy. He was jailed on $250,000 bail pending extradition proceedings.
