Mary J. Derrico, owned, operated restaurant with her husband
Feb. 22, 1920 -- April 8, 2007

Mary J. Derrico of Amherst, a retired restaurant owner, died Sunday in Heathwood Health Care Center, Amherst. She was 87.

Born Mary J. Armeli in Jamestown, she attended Jamestown schools. With her husband, she owned and operated the Little Red Steak Hut in Akron from 1964 until 1973. She also was hostess at Coachman's Inn for more than 10 years.

A former resident of West Seneca, she enjoyed golfing, was active in Fourteen Holy Helpers Catholic Church and was a member of the Legion of Mary.

In retirement, she and her husband maintained a winter home in Hudson, Fla. Her husband of 59 years, Louis A., died last July.

Surviving are two sons, Louis J. and Ralph M., and three sisters, Carmela Zyga, Annie Ciancio and Josephine Mancuso.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Fourteen Holy Helpers Church, 1345 Indian Church Road, West Seneca.
