City GOP backs Marasco for county endorsement
NIAGARA FALLS -- The Niagara Falls Republican Committee has unanimously recommended Richard A. Marasco for endorsement by the county Republican Committee for 1st District Niagara County legislator.
However, Marasco had no competition, as incumbent Jason J. Murgia, a registered Democrat who caucuses with the GOP, did not seek the city Republicans' endorsement. Murgia said Saturday he might go after the official nod from the county Republicans when they meet May 23.
"I haven't decided which route I'm going to take. I'll take anyone's endorsement," said Murgia, who faces the possibility of primaries in both major parties. Jerry Genova, chairman of the Niagara Falls Tourism Advisory Board, has declared his candidacy on the Democratic side.
Henry F. Wojtaszek, county Republican chairman, said he will support Murgia even though Marasco, a social studies teacher at Niagara Falls High School, is the only registered Republican in the race.
